Grow me some air!
Air plants (Tillandsia) are such fascinating little creatures and wonderful to keep around the house. Not only do they look great but they are one of the easiest plants to grow as they don’t require any soil – its very hard to kill them! Unlike normal house plants (the kind that shrivels up when you go away for a long weekend), Tillandsia’s are very hardy and require much less maintenance & attention. While they are called “Air Plants” they still need water, nutrients, and light to survive. The key to keeping them happy is to give them bright, filtered light and an occasional water misting once a week in summer and once a month in winter. If the air is dry (ie. in air-conditioning or heating) its advisable to give them a soaking bath every couple of weeks. But seriously that’s it! Pretty easy huh?
The beauty of air plants is that they use roots to anchor themselves to pretty much any object without stealing nutrients from the host, only using it as a home to grow. So, you can grow them on pretty much anything which is why they are so popular to keep around the home or office.
There are so many beautiful and creative ways air plants can be displayed in your home, and some great new products to really show them off. Some more inspiration below.
